EVENT: Speaker Colloquium Series, Spring 2023

Ottawa Dialogue is pleased to announce the upcoming Speaker Colloquium Series, where we will explore the topic of Track Two diplomacy.  Our distinguished speakers will touch upon its various angles and share their insights and experiences in this field.

April 18th, 10:00 AM EST – “Evolving Approches of Track Two Diplomacy” with Mr. Josh Nadeau
The first event will examine the future of Track Two diplomacy and innovative applications of multitrack diplomacy, with a focus on North America.

Mr. Josh Nadeau will speak on his Policy Brief, Using Peacebuilding Dialogue to Address Sociopolitical Polarization in North America.

May 2nd, 10:00 AM EST – “Data and Peace,” with Dr. Andreas Hirblinger and Dr. Kristina Hook

As data-driven approaches to peacebuilding and peacemaking gain traction, this discussion will explore the potential for data to contribute to peace processes.  First, it will examine how data can be used to create more (or less) inclusive dialogue processes.  Also, it will discuss how data organization can be used to better monitor high-violence situations and ripeness for dialogue in these contexts.

Dr. Andreas Hirblinger (Graduate Institute Geneva) will speak on his Policy Brief, “Multitrack Digital Inclusion and Data-Driven Peacemaking.”

Dr. Kristina Hook (Kennesaw State University) will speak on her Policy Brief, “The Information Revolution and New Opportunities for Multitrack Diplomacy in High Violence Situations: The Increasing Importance of Data Organization and Local Input for Policy Shaping

Followed by a Q&A period from the audience.

May 16th, 10:00 AM EST – “Locally-driven peace processes,” with Ms. Salma Yusuf, Dr. Margarita Tadevosyan, and Ms. Lena Dedyukina

This discussion will examine the intersections between local peace processes and women’s inclusion in the higher Tracks and look at the role of funders in empowering (or disempowering) local actors in multitrack diplomacy. Moreover, this event includes a discussion on Turtle Island and Indigenous peacebuilding practices, with a literature review completed by Ottawa Dialogue’s graduate Research Assistant, Lena Dedyukina.

Dr. Margarita Tadevosyan (George Mason University) will speak on her Policy Brief, “Local peace actors and external funding mechanisms: Towards greater agency for local actors?

Ms. Lena Dedyukina (University of Ottawa, Ottawa Dialogue) will present her Occasional Paper “Indigenous Knowledge and Conflict Resolution: An Annotated Bibliography

This discussion will look at the role of power in Track Two mediation.
